If you are asking, where can I find a cow bells, you have come to the right place. Cowbells are not used as much as they were in the past because most livestock don't roam the way they used too. However Cowbelles are popular as collectors items.

Most cowsbells were made from hammered sheet metal to make them light weight. The first time a bell is placed on a cow the cow may react in a startled way. At first there may be some fear and attempts to get away from the sound but soon the cow figures out that the bell or sound won't hurt her and then she ignores it.

The name cow bell came about because bells were most often placed on cattle. In Switzerland cows were sent out to graze in the high alpine meadows. When milking time came, the cows could be located by the sound of the bells ringing through the quiet air. Many times the size of the bell was determined on the milk production of the cow. The more milk the larger the bell.

I don't remember if they had bells but when I was a child around nine years old the neighbors kept several cows. I liked to visit the cows and noticed that they didn't have a lot of green grass. Outside the pen there was plenty of tall green grass so I would pick a bunch and feed it to the cows. It wasn't very long before the cows would come running when they saw me coming. I would sometimes tease them and run along the fence line with the cows in hot pursuit. Of course I wouldn't tease them for very long before giving them the grass. I also liked to go into the cow fence and scratch them on their backs or around their faces. I would use a small stick to scare the flies from around their eyes. I look back to this time with fond memories.

Don't ask where you can find cowbells when you can find a large selection right here on this page. These bells are popular collector’s items even though the use for them has diminished. It used to be that every herd of cows had at least one with a bell. This way the cows could be found to bring them home for milking. Folks love the sound and use them for calling the kids in for supper or just to have around the house enhancing any room.

Swiss cow bells bring to mind a herd of Jersey cows peacefully grazing out in some green meadow surrounded with majestic mountains. The farmer searches for his cows and the musical notes lead him to where they are. The cows then follow him back to the barn where they are milked, fed and then turned loose for the night. In the morning the farmer does it all over again.

Smaller bells are really impractical for cows but might work for other creatures like dogs or cats. But then these tiny ones are mostly used for decoration. In Switzerland the more the milk the cow produced the bigger the bell so a tiny bell would indicate that the cow wearing it was not a good milk producer. Many cowbells are made from light thin steel or else they would be too heavy for the cow.

Many can be bought in bulk and give you a better price when you resell them. Here are some selections to choose from. I can remember when I was a child and we lived next door to a field that had cows. These cows were not starving but they enjoyed the green grass I would pick for them. It wasn't very long before the cows came running whenever I came to the fence. I would run along the fence just to see when running along beside me. Of course I would reward them with big armfuls of grass.
