In 1923 BMW produced its first motorcycle. This first model came with a flat twin boxer engine and was constructed in its plant in Berlin Germany. Now the company is doing really well and has sold 82,631 BMW motorcycles in 2009. Their best selling motorcycle to date is the R1200GS and as of 2007 sold 100,000 of them.
In 2007 Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman who made a trip from John o Groats Scotland to Cape Aglhas in South Africa, road the R1200GS Adventure making this bike even more popular. This trip was documented in a book and TV series "Long Way Down."
The R1200GS also was shown in the TV program "The Hairy Bikers Cookbook" showing two chefs Dave Myers and Si King riding the BMW R1200GS.

The BMW R1200RT is the most popular touring bike in the United States and the most luxurious touring motorcycle in the world. This BMW motorcycle has won several awards. Two United States magazines awarded it "Best Touring Bike" and "RIDE" magazine called it the "Number One Motorcycle."
