A Tale Tall
One day while walking through the local little town I spied a shop that looked interesting. Going inside I saw the most pretty barber chair for sale, it was black with yellow stripes and looked in great shape.

While waiting for someone to help me I sat in the chair and leaned back. It was nice and comfortable. Suddenly I jerked awake to see a friendly face hovering over me. He smiled once he saw that I was awake and said, our shop closes in ten minutes, is there anything I can do for you?

Confused I jumped up and then asked how long I had been sitting there. He smiled and said, just a couple of hours. You must have been tired so I didn't want to wake you. I was embarrassed but gave him my thanks as I headed out the door. I forgot to ask him how much the chair was. Maybe next time I would ask, but then again maybe not. I may want to avoid that store because of the embarrassment of going to sleep there. Besides I knew I snored. Visions of customers coming in and hearing a racket caused my cheeks to flush. No, I don't think I would be going back to that store.

Antique and vintage barber chairs are really popular today. They look good in your home and shop and will give it a nostalgic appearance. The Theo a Koch is one of the most popular ones and you will find some on this page. Also included are the Koken, Belmont and the Louis Hanson brands.

This photo is from the 1920’s and shows a barber shop scene. I would guess that the ones in the white shirts are the hair cutters and the ones sitting in the chairs are the customers.

This photo shows an old chair sitting on someone’s porch. There is a tear in it but it looks in good condition otherwise. It could be restored fairly easy and made a great addition to any room.

I remember reading a funny tale (untrue) about a woman that went into a store that has one of these for sale and sat down in it for a rest. She was really tired and accidentally fell asleep. The owner of the store didn't want to disturb her so waited until closing time a couple of hours later to wake her.

She was quite embarrassed to have slept there for so long. Se hurried out and must have thought about the other customers that would have come in while she was sleeping. She might have snored too so this would really be embarrassing to anyone. I suspect she stayed away from that store in the future.

If I was the store owner I would have waited just a few minutes and then accidentally on purpose dropped some noisy thing that would have woken her up and saved her the embarrassment, but then would I have thought of it at the time?

I guess the lesson of this story is to be careful where you sleep and stay out of comfortable places in public when you are tired.

This picture shows several of these antique barbershop chairs and the room looks so cozy. Someone did a nice job of fixing it up and making it so appealing. Notice that one of these chairs looks very similar to the one in the above photo. This will show you how nice one would look after it is restored.

I can remember my husband going into a barbershop for a hair cut and beard trim. We were in a small town and there were several men inside just visiting with the owner. The impression I came away with was of friendly country folks. To do well in that business the one doing the hair cutting must be very outgoing and enjoy talking with folks of all types

Dear Antique Barber Chair Fans,

I am writing to you in behalf of your Heavenly Father. He is seeking you like a lost sheep. You remember the Bible story? It is about a shepherd who has 100 sheep. But when he brings the sheep home one night, one is missing. He then leaves the 99 sheep and goes out into the wilderness until he finds that lost sheep.

In this parable the shepherd goes out to search for the one lost sheep-the very least that can be numbered. So if there had been but one lost soul, Christ would have died for that one. To read more click Lost Sheep
